Description: An on-going assessment instrument that is easy to use. It can be a gauge for what aspects of English language
proficiency have been acquired. It is also for teacher use in the reclassification process. The observation tasks
are a portfolio record of growth for a student, and are modeled after the SOLOM rubric. The tasks are adapted
from the California English Language Development (ELD) Standards, and primarily cover those standards,
which cannot easily be included in the California English Language Development Test (CELDT), because they
have to do with performance. The observation tasks can be used as a way for mainstream CLAD or BCLAD
classroom teachers to keep and provide systematic records of the progress and growth in ELD of their students.
